Roll Model Assembly
It was a great pleasure and honour to have Linda Vagana, a top class athlete and also the General Manager of Duffy Books in Homes in our school. She spoke and then presented the Duffy Books to some of our students. As you can see from the photos the students were delighted to meet Linda and I am sure that these Duffy books will have a special place on their book shelves.

Kauri Syndicate Camp at Ahipara The students of KIS Kauri syndicate certainly showed that they could live off the local kaimoana. Day two’s dinner was a smorgasbord of fish and shellfish. On offer were battered fish, raw fish, pipi baskets, pipi and mussel fritters, kina and boiled fish. For breakfast on day three they tucked into the left overs including the fish bones baked in cream and onions!!! All of these were caught or collected by the students. |

Today we had
the privilege of listening to a violinist, Mr MacKay, who has travelled up
from Dunedin with his dog Pippa. His ambition is to play in every school in
New Zealand! He played a variety of styles from Jazz, to classical, traditional and some popular tunes for our entertainment. He introduced us to his dog Pippa, who performed a range of different tricks, like barking at the right place to us singing “How much is that doggy in the window?” sitting, crawling, lying down and dancing. It was not one of her better performances we were told, but we thought she was great. She put a smile on all our faces. Mr MacKay showed us how he was able to create different sounds from his violin. His impression of the bagpipes was really incredible, playing ‘Amazing Grace’. We all thought he actually had bagpipes, but it was his violin. He also played ‘Flight of the Bumblebees.’ He showed us how his bow was made of a white horses tail and how many vibrations made up a note, somewhere between 100 and 2000. |
